Who Is This Qualification For?

This qualification is for professionals currently working in, or moving into, careers guidance roles. This includes school and college careers staff, local authority advisers, CEIAG practitioners, and anyone who provides career guidance as a core part of their role. You do not need to step back from work to study. The Level 6 Diploma is designed around a working professional's life.

Why the Level 6 Diploma Matters Professionally

The Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development is the qualification recognised by the CDI as the standard for professional careers guidance practice. Completing it gives you access to the CDI's Professional Register and demonstrates your professional credibility to employers and the young people and adults you support. For many practitioners, it is the qualification that formalises years of experience and opens the next stage of their career.

What the Qualification Covers

The Level 6 Diploma covers the theory and practice of career guidance, including supporting clients in career exploration and decision-making, understanding the labour market and education landscape, and developing the practical skills for one-to-one guidance interviews. Learners are assessed through a portfolio of evidence and observed practice.

Support and Assessment

Every learner at RGG Associates has a named assessor who is themselves a qualified, practicing careers professional. Your assessor will support you through every stage of the programme. This is not distance learning through an anonymous portal. You will know your assessor, and they will know your context. Materials are bespoke to each cohort. We do not recycle generic content.

How the Qualification Is Delivered

All sessions are delivered live online via Microsoft Teams. You will be part of a small cohort of no more than 15 learners, led by a qualified assessor with direct experience of careers practice. Sessions are interactive and structured to fit around working hours. You can study from anywhere in the UK. There is no requirement to travel to attend sessions.

Entry Requirements & Recognition of Prior Learning

Entry requirements for the Level 6 Diploma include relevant work experience in a careers or guidance role. If you hold existing qualifications or significant professional experience, we can discuss whether recognition of prior learning (RPL) applies to your situation. Q: How long does the Level 6 Diploma take to complete?
A: The diploma is designed to be completed in 12 months. We work with each cohort to make this achievable alongside full-time employment.
Q: Can I study while working full-time?
Yes. Most of our learners are in full-time employment throughout their studies. The programme is structured to make that manageable, and our assessors understand the pressures of a working professional's life.
Q: Do I need to attend sessions in person?
A: No. All sessions are delivered live online via Microsoft Teams. You can participate from anywhere in England and Wales.
Q: My previous qualification might count towards this. What do I do?
A: Contact us with details of your existing qualification and we will tell you whether recognition of prior learning applies. Do this before applying.
Q: Is there funding available for this qualification?
A: Funding is not universally available for the Level 6 Diploma. Contact us to discuss your options, including any organisational or sectoral funding routes that may apply to your circumstances.
